Behind: Samara’s Comfort

All artworks represent a certain period, feeling, or experience. Some with a greater impact than others, just like life itself. I am now working with a medium that is new to me, through which I want to share the process and the thoughts behind it with you.

Art description:

Queen Mother proudly presents her daughter, Princess Samara [meaning of Samara:Protected by God], to the viewer, while also positioning herself to protect her if needed. Princess Samara’s hand rests on the shoulder of the Queen Mother as she stands partially behind her. In front of Queen Mother and Princess Samara is a palm branch; in the past, royalty was welcomed with this symbol.

I believe that God is neither male nor female; God is not limited by gender. On a hierarchical level, however, there is strength in seeing God as God the Father. In nature, this hierarchy is often reflected: the male has a protective role, like an umbrella under which the female and the young can shelter. This is about responsibility, not power privilege or abuse of power, something we as humans have distorted. In this piece, I speak of God fulfilling the mother role while I still use He/Him.

God can fill the places where you need motherly love, for God is [the source of] love.

Although I see God as God the Father, there are many moments when heavenly safety feels warm like a mother’s love. A kind of soft, warm blanket that feels safe.

If Samara’s Comfort were to hang in your home, I hope it would remind you that:

• God can fill the places where you need motherly love, for God is [the source of] love.

• God is proud of you, of the person you are. Proud that you are His creation and that your core is beautiful. You are good because you come from Him.

• God wants you to flourish and protects you in moments you may not even notice. Undeserved, purely out of love. You do not have to fight or prove yourself for that love. In that love, you are free to truly be yourself.

• You are royalty, because you are a creation of The Most High.
